Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Calculates and sets precision of depth and angle of cut. Starts and observes welding equipment to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance, and adjusts controls as required. Sets up and tests equipment operation to ensure functionality and performance. Performs trial run to verify accuracy of fabricating machine settings or programmed control data. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. Installs fabricated pieces for replacement in marine and industrial repair. Develops written and communication skills as well as leadership skills in supervising other Welders. The employer has the right to revise this job description at any time. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED:
Must have strong mathematical skills to perform the duties of a Welder.
Able to cut acme, squares and buttress threads (internal and external).
Must be able to hold close tolerances in machining using precision measuring tools either Metric or English System of Measurements.
Able to fabricate simple jigs and fixtures for production.
Must be able to perform cutting, fit-up, & welding.
Able to build-up and repair parts.
Able to weld similar and dissimilar metals.
Must be able to fabricate spur gears.
Must be able to operate surface and cylindrical grinding machines.
Able to perform material handling and processes.
Must be able to perform basic heat processes.
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required with eight years of continuos work experience or two years technical graduate major in Welder field and five years continuous work experience.
CERTIFICATIONS & FABRICATING/FITTING EXPEREIENCE:
Any 4 Weld Certifications required or 6 years of experience in fabrication/fitting with any 3 welding certifications
S-1 to S-1 SMAW/GTAW
S-8 to S-8 SMAW
S-11 to AR.001 (HY-80) SMAW
MS22M.000 GMAW (Aluminum) or S-8 to S-1 SMAW
