SUMMARY:
Individual is to repair, maintain, install and alter electrical equipment and wiring systems; assists in the planning and lay-out of wiring diagrams; and perform related and other work as required, all within the context of Navy, US Coast Guard and Commercial standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Uses reference materials such as the US Navy, Coast Guard and Commercial electrical specification manuals, parts catalogs, wire and cable winches, electrical hacksaws and drills, sand and bead blasters, drill presses, pipe cutters, pipe threaders, cement cutters, cutting torches, megger meters, ammeters, volt-ohm meters, cable locating meters, fault locators, forklifts, boom trucks, PVC benders, one-ton power lift truck, and all equipment as assigned. May occasionally use hydraulic boom lifts, jackhammers, portable generators, portable compressors, grinders, and skill saws. The employer has the right to revise this job description at any time. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Confers with supervisors and other management staff to clarify projects and priorities.

Installs items such as conduit, junction boxes, wiring, switches, and circuit breakers.

Repairs items such as electrical wiring, E.g. Air conditioning units, air compressors, water pumps, electrical water heaters, equipment with electric motors, generators, elevators, motor control systems, etc.

Removes and installs light fixtures, transformers, motor controllers, relays, and ballasts and fluorescent fixtures.

Maintains man-lifts and generators.

Inspects, tests and calibrates equipment and electrical devices for proper operation, control, and safety.

Performs troubleshooting and diagnostic work on a variety of electrical equipment systems.

Maintains records, computer-based and manual, and makes oral and written reports of work performed; orders and purchases material following standard purchasing procedures; maintains applicable equipment licenses and permits.

Follows safe work procedures. Ensures that proper safety precautions, regulations, and industrial hygiene practices are observed during all work evolutions. Reports equipment malfunctions, needed repairs, and safety/hygiene infractions to supervisor.

Assists in the estimates of labor, materials, and supplies necessary to perform specific assignments and lays out and designs wiring diagrams.

May assist in directing some semi-skilled workers and laborers as assigned.

Performs other work as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required with any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. Example: equivalent to completion of a four-year electrical apprenticeship program or some journey level experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical wiring, equipment, and systems is preferred.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of electrical theory, electrical codes and of the standard practices, terms, procedures, materials, and equipment used in the electrical trade; and of the hazards and safety precautions associated with electrical work.
Ability to plan, lay out and execute electrical work; to install, maintain and repair electrical wiring, motors, controls, and other electrical equipment; to read and interpret wiring diagrams and specifications; to read and apply the applicable codes, orders and regulations of national, state, and local regulatory bodies; to make estimates of labor and materials; to keep records and make reports; to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the workplace. Requires independent judgment, initiative, alertness, and resourcefulness to cope with conditions encountered. Often work performed is of emergency nature, must be able to work with speed and precision to meet deadlines. Will usually be working alone (or with safety observer) and must possess a working knowledge of related trades to complete jobs assigned.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects, use of hand and power tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. May involve stooping, reaching, crawling, climbing and manual strength.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Includes both inside and outside work in a variety of weather conditions. Work may be performed in confined areas such as those between ceilings and roofs, and includes exposure to electrical shock and airborne particles.
