SUMMARY:
This job level is considered a skilled position. An individual is expected to be dependable and productive in the operation of all Machinist tools and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be able to operate machinery such as: lathe, milling; shaper, radical processes; surface and cylindrical grinding machines. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and material on machines. Measure, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for
subsequent machining. Assists in the material handling and heat treatment processing. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts, including non-ferrous metals.

EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required with two- (2) years technical graduate major in Machinist field or three- (3) years continuous work experience in related field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

SPECIFIC SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED & DEVELOPED TO EXCEL TO MACHINIST LEVEL I:

Must have strong mathematical skills to perform the duties of a Machinist.

Able to cut acme, squares and buttress threads (internal and external).

Must be able to hold close tolerances in machining using precision measuring tools either Metric or English System of Measurements.

Able to fabricate simple jigs and fixtures for production.

Must be able to perform shrink fitting for journal bearing and bushings.

Able to build-up and repair parts.
-
Able to weld similar and dissimilar metals.

Must be able to perform brazing and bronze welding.

Must be able to fabricate spur gears.
-
Must be able to operate surface and cylindrical grinding machines.

Able to perform material handling and processes.

Must be able to perform basic heat processes.

After two (2) years training as a Machinist II the individual will be evaluated by their work
performance, work habits, attitude, and attendance. After passing evaluation employee
may be promoted to next level. Salary will commensurate with position and experience.
