SUMMARY:
Successful completion of the duties involved in this position over a period of time will lead to promotion to Labor
Head or Trades’ Helper, provided that there is a need for those positions to be filled.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
A Laborer will be primarily responsible for the following tasks:

Assist various departments in the ship repair industry.

Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of the dry dock.

Fire watch when necessary.

Assist with basic maintenance of the office building.

Form and lay concrete slabs, when necessary.

General maintenance and upkeep of the ship yard.

REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license (preferred).
Ability to obtain a Rapid Gate Pass via Navy background check (preferred).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Laborers may also encounter working environments that are characterized by high noise levels, great heights and
warm temperatures. The physical demands associated with this position require that individuals are capable of
heavy lifting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use of
hands to finger, handle or feel objects, use of hand and power tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and
talk or hear. Must be able to lift, push and pull at least 50 lbs. The physical demands associated with this position
require that individuals are capable of heavy lifting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally
exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

SPECIFIC SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED AND DEVELOPED:
Individuals wishing to join the Labor Group will be required to undergo informal training in site-specific
environmental concerns brought about by the requirement in the ship-repair process to make use of hazardous
materials and by the subsequent generation of hazardous waste. In this training, particular attention will be given
to study of the Clean Water Act, National Pollution Discharge Elimination System, and Solid and Hazardous
waste regulations.
