Job Summary:

Skilled carpentry work on vessels, buildings and dry docks.

Qualification Standards 

Previous experience required.  Ability to work with precision instruments and hand tools required.  Must be capable of understanding written and verbal instructions.  Ability to lift and manipulate materials and work heights required.  Must be able to read and understand blueprints. Must be able to work any shift.  Must be able to recognize and avoid potential hazards; which are commonly present in the employee's work area.  Must be able to hear warning signals and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings. The employer has the right to revise this job description at any time.  The employer also reserves the right to restructure the company organization.

Essential Job Tasks:

Builds keel and bilge blocks, cradles, and shoring for supporting ship in dry dock.

Modify keel or side blocks after vessel has been dry docked.

Positions and secures blocking and other structures on dock platform, according to ships blueprints.

Remove interior walls, ceilings, equipment, etc. so that the area is accessible to other trades.

Reinstall or modify interior walls, ceilings, equipment, etc.

Materials, Tools Equipment, Work Aids 

Works with wood and metal using power and hand tools.  Uses transit, plumb bob, tape, and levels.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required with five years continuous work experience in related field.

Physical Demands- 

Requires repetitive or prolonged bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and climbing.  Routinely will lift between 50 and 75 lbs. and performs work in physically awkward and demanding positions.  May have to do work involving contact with irritant dusts, fumes, or chemicals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works around high & low-pressure piping-systems.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to cold, wet, hot and humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate and may occasionally be loud.
