JOB PURPOSE:

The Dock Maintenance Tech is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all facilities' dry docks under the direction of the Dock Master to develop integral dry dock operations/production team geared towards creating highly efficient dry dock repair periods. Candidate must have a strong work ethic and possess an aptitude for mechanical, electrical, and structural systems.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures compliance with appropriate Company, EPA, OSHA, and USCG regulations.

  • Executing the maintenance work done on all dry docks

  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing an any combination of arc welding processes. 

  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.

  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts. 

  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding. 

  • Cleans up after job is completed. 

  • Always does inspection of work site before beginning work. 

  • Fills out necessary hot permits. 

  • Runs small equipment when necessary. 

  • Does work independently without being told. 

  • Takes proper care of tools and equipment.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Successfully completed a drydocking training course by DM Consulting, or similar.
    Knowledge of docking procedures, ship handling, and ship design 

  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Hands-on approach in maintenance operations, specifically in the areas of mechanical, electrical, structural, and preservation

  • Knowledge of vessel's characteristics, terminology & handling such as types of configurations of dry dock blocks, and materials used, and stability and effects of vessels

  • Ability to perform long term maintenance and repair plans

  • Possess the aptitude for mechanical, electrical, and structural systems
    Must have the ability to work with metric system conversions.

 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Clerical skills – clerical skills are key in this role, since purchasing clerks prepare orders and reports and ensure that information is correctly entered in the company’s system

  • Mathematics – purchasing clerks should possess good mathematical skills to ensure that their calculations are correct when determining costs and completing purchase orders

  • Relationship management – because they support vendor relations and contracts, purchasing clerks should have strong relationship development and management skills

  • Client service skills – client service skills are also important in this role, since the purchasing clerk needs to work with multiple departments to complete orders and maintain records

  • Communication skills – purchasing clerks are effective verbal and written communicators, able to speak with and write to vendors, shipping companies, and internal personnel

  • Must be proficient with 10 Key, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Project) and office equipment.

The physical demands described here are those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels, piers, docks, & work sites. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, & ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; and vibration.
