ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF THE JOB:

  • Perform all aspects of barges, ships and dry docks cleaning and maintenance. This work includes preparing and checking equipment, entrances and exits of barges, ships and dry docks.

  • Utilize hand tools such as pressure washers, mechanical spinners, or brushes to effectively clean the barges, ships and dry docks.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment that complies with environmental guidelines and policies.

  • Stay compliant with all regulatory bodies as it applies to the work that is being completed and with all safety rules and policies.

  • Utilize proper PPE.

  • Fire watch when necessary.

  • Assist with basic maintenance of the office building and facilities.

  • Form and lay concrete slabs, when necessary.

  • General maintenance and upkeep of the ship yard.

  • Support all other trades as needed.

  • Perform other general labor duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Be able to work all shifts, weekends and overtime, as required

  • Must be able to board ships and enter and work in confined spaces with limited visibility

  • Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights

  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment

  • Must be able to comply with all Safety rules

  • Must have experience pulling and carrying hoses

  • Valid driver’s license (preferred)

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Laborers may also encounter working environments that are characterized by high noise levels, great heights and warm temperatures. The physical demands associated with this position require that individuals are capable of heavy lifting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects, use of hand and power tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  Must be able to lift, push and pull at least 50 lbs. The physical demands associated with this position require that individuals are capable of heavy lifting.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Individuals wishing to join the Labor Group will be required to undergo informal training in site-specific environmental concerns brought about by the requirement in the ship-repair process to make use of hazardous materials and by the subsequent generation of hazardous waste.  In this training, particular attention will be given to study of the Clean Water Act, National Pollution Discharge Elimination System, and Solid and Hazardous waste regulations.
